Gaffalione has left his Keeneland rivals far behind

LEXINGTON, Ky. – With just four days left at the 17-day Keeneland fall meet, Tyler Gaffalione already has run away with another riding title at a Kentucky track. Into Wednesday, Gaffalione has a 23-11 lead over Florent Geroux, his closest pursuer atop the local rider standings.
This would be the fourth Keeneland riding title for Gaffalione, who has swept the last five meet titles at Churchill Downs, dating to the 2020 spring meet.
The trainers’ race is much closer, with Wesley Ward (10 wins) holding a narrow margin over Brad Cox (8) and Mike Maker (7). They have the following number of Keeneland entries over the next three cards (through Friday): Ward, 4; Cox, 13; Maker, 9.
◗ Soup and Sandwich is headed back this week to the Ocala, Fla. farm of trainer Mark Casse after finishing last of nine Saturday in the Perryville. “We’ll regroup again and look for an allowance at Gulfstream sometime this winter,” said Casse.
