Fuzzy Dee Jay upset the field of Ohio-registered older horses Sunday afternoon to win the $50,000 Sydney Gendelman Memorial Handicap at Belterra Park.
Trained by Doug Cowans, Fuzzy Dee Jay was kept just off the pace set by Raise the Reward early. Jockey Rodney Prescott asked the 4-year-old colt to go, and he went to the lead on the far turn.
After dueling for a quarter-mile, Fuzzy Dee Jay drew off from John Galt in mid-stretch to win by 2 1/4 lengths. John Galt was six lengths in front of favorite Silver Tongued in third.
The running time for the 1 1/16 miles over a fast track was 1:43.25, and Fuzzy Dee Jay returned $16.00 to win.
