Fury Kapcori will be pointed to two more Santa Anita races

ARCADIA, Calif. – Fury Kapcori, who won his fourth consecutive race in Saturday’s Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes, is likely to have two more starts at the current spring-summer meeting at Santa Anita.
A 4-year-old, Fury Kapcori is expected to run in the $200,000 Californian Stakes over 1 1/8 miles May 31 and the $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 28, according to Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
“It’s working well to go once a month,” Ward said. “You don’t have to train him too hard.”
Fury Kapcori ($2.80) led throughout the $100,250 Precisionist Stakes over 1 1/16 miles, pulling away on the backstretch to lead by two lengths on the turn. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Fury Kapcori won by 5 3/4 lengths over Handsome Mike, the winner of the Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland in 2013.
The Precisionist was previously known as the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap when run at Hollywood Park. The Gold Cup at Santa Anita was formerly the Hollywood Gold Cup. Hollywood Park closed for development last December.
Fury Kapcori’s current winning streak includes an optional claimer Jan. 1, an allowance race Feb. 7, and the minor Santana Mile on March 30. The Precisionist was his first graded stakes win. He won the Charlie Palmer Futurity at the Big Fresno Fair in 2012 and was second in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park later that season.
Fury Kapcori missed the first seven months of his 3-year-old season last year with a knee injury. A colt by Tiznow, Fury Kapcori has won 6 of 14 starts and earned $479,880.
Hollendorfer co-owns Fury Kapcori with Rick Awtrey and George Todaro.
Next Saturday, Hollendorfer starts Tonito M., an import from Puerto Rico, in the $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Stakes for 3-year-olds over seven furlongs.
Tonito M. has won 6 of 7 starts and $96,109. He won four stakes in Puerto Rico but has not raced since winning the Grade 3 George Washington Stakes over 1 1/16 miles Feb. 16. Mickey Gonzalez bought Tonito M. in March. The Kentucky-bred colt, by Rock Hard Ten, arrived at Hollendorfer’s stable in early March.
The Grade 3 Laz Barrera Stakes will have a small field. Other candidates are Ferocious, Kobe’s Back, and Puppy Manners. Hollendorfer nominated Shared Belief, the champion 2-year-old male of 2013, but the gelding is not expected to start, Ward said.
Shared Belief has not raced since winning the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park last December. Plagued by foot problems earlier this year, Shared Belief resumed workouts in April. On Saturday at Golden Gate Fields, Shared Belief worked a half-mile in 48 seconds, his fourth workout since mid-April.
