Fury Kapcori makes it four straight in Precisionist

ARCADIA, Calif. - Fury Kapcori extended his winning streak to four races, and won his first graded stakes, in Saturday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Precisionist Stakes for older horses at Santa Anita.
Fury Kapcori ($2.80) was in command throughout the Precisionist Stakes over 1 1/16 miles. Jockey Rafael Bejarano had Fury Kapcori in front by a length on the backstretch, and that was the closest his five rivals got to him.
Fury Kapcori led by two lengths on the turn and three lengths with a furlong remaining. He won by 5 3/4 lengths in 1:42.11.
Handsome Mike, a 15-1 outsider, was second throughout, finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Majestic City in third. American Blend was fourth, followed by Secretsatmidnight and Batti Man.
Fury Kapcori is owned by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer with George Todaro and Rick Awtrey. Saturday’s win could lead to a start in the $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita for Fury Kapcori, who has won 6 of 14 starts and earned $479,880.
A 4-year-old by Tiznow, Fury Kapcori won the Charlie Palmer Futurity at the Big Fresno Fair in 2012, and was sidelined after finishing second in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity in December 2012.
In 2013, Fury Kapcori was winless in five starts, including a second in the El Cajon Stakes at Del Mar and a fifth in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby behind Will Take Charge, the champion 3-year-old male of 2013.
Fury Kapcori is unbeaten this year – having won an optional claimer on Jan. 1, an allowance race on Feb. 7, and the Santana Mile on March 30.
“Last year, we were disappointed when he was beaten,” said Dan Ward, Hollendorfer’s assistant. “He only got beat (five) lengths by Will Take Charge. They weren’t bad races at all.
“He’s coming into his own. He’s a Tiznow, he’s big and he’s maturing.”
*Forever Juanito ($7.80) won his stakes debut in the $78,250 Desert Code Stakes for 3-year-olds on the hillside turf course.
Ridden by Agapito Delgadillo, Forever Juanito led throughout the about 6 1/2 furlongs on turf, holding off a late threat from 6-5 Schoolofhardrocks to win by a half-length. Home School finished third, 1 1/4 lengths behind Schoolofhardrocks.
Forever Juanito was timed in 1:12.45.
Forever Juanito races for Victor M. and Juan Garcia and is trained by Juan Garcia’s son Victor L. Garcia. By Badge of Silver, Forever Juanito has won 2 of 4 starts and $109,640.
