Fullofenergy overcame a two-month layoff to win the $50,000 Land of Enchantment for the fourth consecutive year Sunday at Ruidoso Downs. The 7 1/2-furlong stakes was part of the Zia Racing Festival of 10 New Mexico-bred stakes for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Purses for the races totaled more than $1.1 million. Fullofenergy ($8.40) was making his first start since winning the $100,000 Jack Cole Handicap at SunRay Park on May 31. A lack of racing opportunities put him in the position of coming into the Land of Enchantment off the eight-week layoff, but his trainer, Joel Marr, had him right on for the task. Fullofenergy was prominent throughout to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Lesters Secret. Carlos Madeira rode the winner for the partnership of Joe Allen and Michael Stinson. Fullofenergy covered the distance on a fast track in 1:32. The win Sunday pushed his career earnings to $502,537. In some of the other top Thoroughbred races, Comicsperfectstorm($3.40) rolled to a 4 1/4-length win over Colors of Pompeii in the $198,322 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity, while Running Squall ($17.40) pulled a mild upset in the $183,633 Rio Grande Senor Futurity. In the richest race of the program for Quarter Horses, the 52-1 longshot A Streak Again got up for a neck win over 2-5 favorite Streak of Sixes in the $351,963 Zia Futurity. A Streak Again paid $106.40.
