Full Serrano to bypass Pincay; Pegasus World Cup possible

Debra A. Roma Full Serrano won't start in the Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes at Santa Anita but could run in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream.

Full Serrano, one of California’s leading older males in the last 18 months, worked a half-mile in 48.60 seconds at Santa Anita on Friday for a 2026 campaign.

Full Serrano has not raced since he finished fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar on Nov. 1, a race he won in 2024 at Del Mar.

Trainer John Sadler said on Thursday that Full Serrano will miss the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Dec. 26, opening day of the track’s winter-spring meeting.

Owned by Hronis Racing, Full Serrano emerged from the BC Dirt Mile on Nov. 1 with a “tender foot,” Sadler said a week after the race.

“He missed enough time,” Sadler said. “He won’t make the Pincay.”

An option for Full Serrano’s first start of 2026 is the Grade 1, $3 million Pegasus World Cup at 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 24.

“The Pegasus is on the radar,” Sadler said. “We haven’t made any decision on a race yet.”

A 6-year-old Argentine-bred horse, Full Serrano has won 3 of 6 starts since arriving from Argentina in early 2024. Aside from the win in the BC Dirt Mile, Full Serrano has been second in two Grade 1 races – the 2024 Pacific Classic at 1 1/4 miles at Del Mar, and the Goodwood Stakes at 1 1/8 miles at Santa Anita in September.

Sadler scored an upset win in the BC Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 31 with Super Corredora. On Friday at Santa Anita, Super Corredora worked three furlongs in 34.60 seconds, her first workout since the BC Juvenile Fillies at 1 1/16 miles.

Super Corredora is unbeaten in two starts around two turns, beginning with a sharp win in a maiden race by 8 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita on Oct. 11.

At the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting, the first stakes around two turns for 3-year-old fillies is the Grade 3 Las Virgenes Stakes at a mile on Feb. 1. The main race of the meeting for the division is the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks at 1 1/16 miles on April 4.
