Full fields for Gulfstream Park West opener

Mike Welsch|Oct 03, 2014

MIAMI – Full fields will abound when the doors open Wednesday on the first-ever Gulfstream Park West meeting, to run through Nov. 30 at the track formerly known as Calder Race Course. The Stronach Group has leased the Calder racetrack and a portion of the barn area for the next six years.

Wednesday’s 10-race program drew 123 entries, including also-eligibles. Although the meet is being billed as the Fall Turf Festival, only four of the 10 races on opening day have been carded on the grass.

Wednesday’s main event, a 6 1/2-furlong optional-claiming race for fillies and mares, lured a field of 10 led by the stakes-placed trio of Yes Liz, Red Minx, and Quinnkat.
