Full field expected for Matriarch

The high-class turf females Miss Temple City and Time and Motion were among a field of 12 expected to be entered on Thursday for the Grade 1, $300,000 Matriarch Stakes, the highlight of the closing-day card at Del Mar on Sunday.
The Matriarch, at one mile on turf, is for fillies and mares. Miss Temple City was fifth most recently in the Breeders’ Cup Mile against males and owns two Grade 1 wins this year against males.
Time and Motion, 3, won the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland last time out. This will be her first start against older runners.
Others expected for the Matriarch are Decked Out, Kitcat, Mexican Gold, Nancy From Nairobi, Prize Exhibit, Roca Rojo, Sobradora Inc., Stays in Vegas, Tiz a Kiss, and Zindaya.
◗ In addition to the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby and Grade 2 Bayakoa, Saturday’s Del Mar card includes a loaded maiden race for 2-year-olds. Iliad and American Anthem, both making their debuts for trainer Bob Baffert, and Sheer Flattery, a Jerry Hollendorfer-trained colt who was second to Mastery in a Santa Anita maiden race last time out, are among the well-regarded entrants in that six-furlong race, which goes as race 8 on the nine-race card.
