A full brother to Canadian Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd sold for $150,000 to lead the way as the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s Ontario division hosted the Canadian premier yearling sale on Wednesday. The sale finished with more horses sold for a gain in gross receipts, but drops in average and median prices. The CTHS reported 168 yearlings sold on Wednesday at Woodbine's sales pavilion in Toronto for a gross of $4,017,790. Last year, 150 yearlings brought $3,837,700. The average price finished at $23,915, a drop of seven percent from $25,584. The median fell 23 percent, to $15,000 from $19,500. Nancy Guest purchases the sale-topping Old Forester colt from the consignment of John Carey, agent for T. C. Westmeath Stud Farm. The colt is out of the stakes-placed Great Gladiator mare Gladiator Queen. Her four winners from six starters are led by Pink Lloyd, who was Canada's Horse of the Year in 2017, won five consecutive Sovereign Awards as champion male sprinter from 2017-2021, and also was voted champion older male in 2017 and 2019. He won 29 of 38 career starts for earnings of more than $1.8 million, with 26 stakes wins highlighted by the Grade 2 Kennedy Road and Grade 3 Vigil in 2017; Grade 3 Bold Venture and Vigil in 2018; the Kennedy Road, Grade 3 Jacques Cartier, and Vigil in 2019; the Bold Venture, Jacques Cartier, and Vigil in 2020; and the Kennedy Road and Bold Venture in 2021. This is also the extended family of another Canadian Horse of the Year in graded stakes winner Fatal Bullet. For hip-by-hip results, click here. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
