Coady Media Free Like a Girl became the all-time leading Louisiana-bred earner winning the Misty Bennett Stakes at Charles Town last Friday. The daughter of El Deal has earned more than $1.9 million.

The broodmare Flashy Prize has been on a roll the past several days, with daughter Free Like a Girl becoming the all-time leading earner among Louisiana-breds on Friday night and a yearling son topping the Texas summer auction at $150,000 on Monday.

The yearling colt is a full brother to Free Like a Girl, whose earnings stand at $1.9 million after her win in the Misty Bennett at Charles Town. Both horses are by the stallion El Deal, who was the sire of three of six highest-priced horses sold Monday.

The sales topper was in the ring early at the yearling auction at Lone Star Park, and was purchased by Josh Stevens, agent for Mansfield Racing. The Louisiana-bred was consigned by Oakridge Farm, Paul Pruett.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association, which sponsors the sale, reported 142 yearlings sold for a total of $2,685,200, for an average of $18,910. There were 45 yearlings that did not sell. The median was $13,000.

At the corresponding sale a year ago, a Practical Joke colt topped the auction at $110,000. The average was $18,542 and the median was $11,000.

The sales topper on Monday sold as Hip No. 7.

“We started out strong right out of the gate with a $150,000 horse in the first few minutes, and it was great to see the average and median improve over last year,” Foster Bridewell, sales director, said in a press release. “The sale-topper is an outstanding horse, and we had plenty of quality throughout the catalog.”

The second highest seller was a colt by Collected, who brought $100,000 from SBM, agent for Ken Reimer. He is from the mare Candy Baby, an unraced daughter of Candy Ride, and was consigned by Scott Mallory.
