Frosty Margarita wins the 2018 Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes
SV Photography Frosty Margarita drew off for a two-length victory in Monday's Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes at Finger Lakes.

Frosty Margarita was faster than her competition early and late in the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite at Finger Lakes on Monday, scoring by two lengths over Kentucky shipper Rosyjersey.

Six New York-bred fillies and mares went postward in the 1 1/16-mile Jack Betta Be Rite. Frosty Margarita paid $3.80.

Trainer Rudy Rodriguez played his cards perfectly. He sent another of his horses, Frostie Anne, to Finger Lakes to win back-to-back allowance races in June and July. He skipped the Jack Betta Be Rite with her and went with Frosty Margarita, whom Frostie Anne had beaten by a neck last time out. On Sunday at Saratoga, Frostie Anne won an $81,000 off-the-turf allowance race as a main-track-only entrant.

Frosty Margarita showed speed from post 1 for jockey John Davila Jr. Going into the first turn, four horses lined up for the lead – Frosty Margarita, Rosyjersey, Pride of Saratoga, and Amanda Lane – with Frosty Margarita saving ground and Amanda Lane widest of all. Before reaching the backstretch, Frosty Margarita had opened a clear lead.

She increased her advantage to about two lengths on the far turn, then held Rosyjersey at bay through the final five-sixteenths of a mile.

Frosty Margarita, a 5-year-old daughter of Frost Giant owned and bred by Gabrielle Farm, was timed in 1:44.75 over a fast track. She is now eight for 30 in her career with earnings of $576,000.

Between November 2015 and January 2016, Frosty Margarita won three statebred stakes in a row, the Joseph A. Gimma and Maid of the Mist at Belmont Park and the Key Cents at Aqueduct. Two starts ago in June, she won a Finger Lakes allowance sprint by three lengths.

Rosyjersey, who is based at the Mercury Equine Center outside Lexington, Ky., with trainer Eric Reed had her three-race winning streak snapped but raced well in defeat to be second-best. She finished five lengths clear of 3-1 second choice Pride of Saratoga, who made a move after the winner on the backstretch but then tired.
