Frosted, California Chrome share world's No. 2 ranking on Longines list

Frosted, who in his last start won the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park in New York by 14 1/4 lengths, has been moved to the co-second-highest-ranked horse in the world on the Longines World’s Best Racehorse List, according to the latest ranking from the committee responsible for the list.
At 126 pounds, Frosted, whose Met Mile victory earned a 123 Beyer Speed Figure, shares the second-place ranking with California Chrome, the 2014 Horse of the Year who was most recently the winner of the Dubai World Cup. First place is held by A Shin Hikari, a Japanese-bred whose 10-length win in May in the Prix d’Ispahan at Chantilly, France, impressed European handicappers. Since then, A Shin Hikari finished last in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Nyquist, the winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby, is the co-third-highweight on the list at 124 pounds with three others.
The current ranking is for horses with a performance between Jan. 1 and July 10. The committee, which includes Tom Robbins, the racing secretary at Del Mar, determines the rankings by rating a horse’s best performance of the year, regardless of other races.
