Laurel Park will cancel its Sunday card due to “expected frigid temperatures,” a recurring issue for the track as harsh conditions have lingered for weeks in the Mid-Atlantic region. After postponing both cards at Laurel last weekend, the Maryland Jockey Club originally planned to conduct racing from Wednesday to Sunday this week in order to make up race dates. Races were run from Wednesday to Friday, but both weekend cards have now been postponed or canceled because of similarly cold temperatures and wind chill. The Saturday card, which was canceled Thursday, will now be run in its entirety without a redraw on Thursday, Feb. 12. Races from the Sunday card will be listed as guaranteed extras throughout next week. If the fields for those races remain intact, they will be redrawn with the same number of horses and run next weekend. Laurel and the Maryland Jockey Club OTB network will remain open this weekend. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
