Friday’s TimeformUS Highlight Horse: My Last Million is heading in the right direction

My Roxy Girl (#4) earned a field-best 88 TimeformUS Speed Figure two back when beating a group of claiming foes by over 8 lengths. However, I’m somewhat skeptical about her repeating that performance. It was significantly faster than her surrounding races and an especially slow and tiring track at Aqueduct that day may have led to her lopsided score. Since then, I thought her effort last time out was disappointing when she failed to take advantage of a fast pace, albeit in a slightly tougher spot.

I strongly prefer her chief rival, MY LAST MILLION (#5), who just seems to be hitting her stride after racing greenly in her first few starts.

My Last Million showed speed before fading in her debut at Finger Lakes but then ran significantly faster in her next start at Aqueduct. That day, she showed a lack of focus through the stretch, as she shied away from the whip and switched leads multiple times. Charlton Baker gave her a makeover for her third attempt, adding blinkers and Lasix, and that seemed to do the trick. She was much more professional right from the start on Jan. 19 and drew off with authority in the lane. Her speed figure for that effort makes her one of the fastest horses in this race, but I think that number could have been higher given the large gaps between runners and the fact that a few also-rans were assigned much lower figures than they had previously earned. This time, she should sit a great trip stalking the speeds to her inside, and she appears better equipped than her rivals to handle seven furlongs.

In addition to My Roxy Girl, I also want to use my top selection with Right On, who was beaten by the talented Midnight Disguise last time and has essentially shown up in all of her races on the NYRA circuit. She’s a bit slower than the top contenders, but she has a right to get into the exacta.
