Fresno: My Captain wins third straight stakes

FRESNO, Calif. - Odds-on favorite My Captain ($3.40) scored his third straight stakes victory, capturing the $50,600 Bull Dog Handicap at the Big Fresno Fair on Sunday.

Just as he had done in winning the Ernest Finley at Santa Rosa and the Big Jag at Bay Meadows, My Captain sat just off the pace down the backstretch before unleashing a strong closing kick.

He sat off the early pace of multiple stakes winner Beyond Brilliant, assumed command into the stretch and pulled away to a 4*-length (four one-half) victory, covering six furlongs in 1:08.54. Nu Cat passed a tiring Beyond Brilliant for second.

The victory was the sixth in 20 starts for Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss homebred. He earned $27,600 to increase his lifetime earnings to $201,230.
