Freshman-sired trio clocks fastest furlong at first OBS March breeze show

Joe Nevills|Mar 07, 2013

A triumvirate of fillies by freshman sires tied for the fastest time for a one-furlong breeze on Thursday during the first Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March selected sale of 2-year-olds in training under-tack show.

The fillies put on a strong performance as some of the first foals by their sires to participate in a public auction’s breeze show, covering the distance in :9.80 seconds over the Ocala Training Center’s synthetic Safetrack surface.

One of the juveniles to register the co-fastest time was a Colonel John filly out of the Storm Cat mare Storm Key, who has produced six winners from seven to race, including Grade 1-placed winner Desert Key. She is from the family of Grade 1 winners Nine Keys and Silver Voice, as well as Grade 2 winner Clef d’Argent. The dark bay or brown filly is consigned by Day Vista Farms as agent for Fifty Shades of Racing.

Also finishing at the top of the list was a Pioneerof the Nile filly out of the stakes-winning Forest Wildcat mare Wild Catseye, dam of four winners from as many to race. Consigned by Becky Thomas’ Sequel Bloodstock as agent, the bay filly’s notable family members include Grade 3-placed winner A Real Eye Opener as well as stakes winner Devil’s Doom.

Rounding out the one-furlong leaders was a filly by Old Fashioned out of the stakes-placed winning Forestry mare Angel Island. The gray or roan filly, consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent, is from the family of Grade 2 winner No Advantage and Grade 3 winners I Rejoice, Agean, Millencolin, I’m a Thriller and Sky Terrace.

A Henny Hughes colt clocked the fastest time among the juveniles to breeze a quarter mile, completing the workout in :20.60.

The chestnut colt, consigned by Southern Chase Farm, agent, is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare Sea Gift, who has produced two winners from four to race. Group 1 winner Toylsome, Grade 2 winner Dance Parade, and Grade 3 winner Ocean Queen are among the colt’s most successful family members.

The second and final day of the OBS March under-tack show is scheduled for Friday at 8 a.m. Eastern. The two-day sale will begin March 12 at 11 a.m. at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Complex.
