ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Reigning Canadian champion female sprinter Little Teddy makes her season debut against some speedy rivals in Woodbine’s Saturday feature, a five-furlong conditioned allowance for fillies and mares with a purse of $120,700. Little Teddy took 4 of 6 starts while banking $216,067 in 2025. The highlights of her campaign were a pair of inner-turf scores in the restricted Zadracarta and Eternal Search stakes. The closer also won two allowances on the Tapeta in the spring. Trainer Santino Di Paola was thrilled with winning his first Sovereign Award. “She won [the vote] by a decent margin – that was really nice,” Di Paola said. “Getting a stakes win was my first goal [in racing] and a Sovereign Award was always the second goal. It was awesome.” Little Teddy worked a thorough five furlongs in 1:00.40 on April 26, according to Di Paola. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! If I had another two half-miles in her, I’d be a little happier, but she’s on her game. She’s grown so much. We think she’s improved quite a bit from 4 to 5.” Regular rider Austin Adams has the mount on Little Teddy, a daughter of Frac Daddy. Di Paola pointed to Miss Vyvyanne as the one to catch in race 8. “This race is a start for us,” he said. “If someone doesn’t go with Miss Vyvyanne, it might not set up for us.” Miss Vyvyanne has been a front-running tour de force since trainer Gail Cox claimed her for $32,000 on June 28. The 6-year-old has won four five-furlong sprints in a row dating back to August, including a March 14 conditioned allowance/optional claimer on Tapeta at Gulfstream. She earned a career-high 92 Beyer Speed Figure there most recently when taking a handicap on turf, seemingly her preferred surface. Maximum Fifty, another productive need-the-lead type, may not be quite as fast as Miss Vyvyanne. Trained by Robert Tiller, Maximum Fifty was the winningest horse at the 2025 Woodbine meet, during which she won 6 of 7 starts, all in allowance/optional-claiming company. A scratch from last Saturday’s Grade 3 Whimsical, the 5-year-old hasn’t started since Nov. 1. Olivia Rose also has effective speed but could be relegated to a stalking position in this race, her first since late October. The 5-year-old has four restricted stakes victories to her credit, including the 2025 Ballade for Ontario-sired stock. Chromeplated Heart ended a drought when winning her April 18 seasonal bow in a first-level allowance with a $32,000 claiming option. Rounding out the field is Cara Cara, who cleared the second allowance condition with a low 67 Beyer last August. This is her first start since a non-threatening fifth behind Little Teddy in the five-furlong Zadracarta in September.
