The favorites are vulnerable in this maiden-claiming sprint for California-bred fillies and mares. Tiz Next (5-2) has speed, but has not raced in a year. Risin? Heat (7-2) is bred to win early, but her trainer Chuck Peery has been cold.

Lady Sorceress, trained by Jorge Gutierrez, has worked well, and Gutierrez springs with an occasional longshot rookie. Lady Sorceress is 12-1 on the line, and a bet at 9-1.

Smart n'Quiet outran her odds two weeks ago while showing increased speed. She is up in class after that fourth-place finish against Calbreds, and while she does not figure to win the Grade 3 Sorrento, all you can really hope for is a horse to outrun its price.
