Free's Del Mar horses to watch for Thursday, Nov. 27
BLACKFORD
Trainer: Ron Ellis
Last race: Nov. 23, 5th
Finish: 2nd by 1
Beyer: 72
Racing wide over an inside-favoring surface, this 3-year-old claiming colt finished more than four lengths clear of third and only needs a fair track that does not compromise his rally-wide style. Where he will get that type of track in Southern California is the question.
MY SAMURAI WARRIOR
Trainer: Victor Garcia
Last race: Nov. 23, 6th
Finish: 4th by 2 3/4
Beyer: 87
Another outside tripper compromised by the inside bias, this consistent gelding ran well against the grain. He might have been slightly overmatched in a N1X anyway and would fit best in a high-level claiming race on dirt.
DANCINTHENIGHTAWAY
Trainer: Mark Glatt
Last race: Nov. 23, 7th
Finish: 1st by 3 1/2
Beyer: 89
Two starts into her career, this Indian Charlie filly looks like a stakes filly. Switching to turf and without a recorded work since her debut three weeks earlier, she dusted statebred rivals. Both wins by blowouts, either surface is fine, she might be considered for the Grade 1, seven-furlong La Brea Stakes on opening day at Santa Anita on Dec. 26.
WINNING RHYTHM
Trainer: Paddy Gallagher
Last race: Nov. 22, 8th
Finish: 5th by 2
Beyer: 85
A 1 3/16-mile race turned out to be too far for this turf miler. She made a menacing move off the turn in the Grade 3 Red Carpet and then flattened out while challenged by the distance. Expect her to shorten up and return to top form this winter at Santa Anita.
