BETTYS BAMBINO
Trainer: Pete Eurton
Last race: July 26, 2nd
Finish: 3rd by 4
Beyer: 67
This reliable turf sprinter, normally a pacesetter/presser, lost position early, found himself in seventh, and rallied as well as he could. This was not a good trip. He deserves another chance in a similar N1X turf sprint.
ASHLEY’S SASSY
Trainer: Pete Eurton
Last race: July 26, 3rd
Finish: 3rd by 2 1/2
Beyer: 58
A first-time starter, this California-bred in a maiden special weight was not quick, uncorked a wide moved through the turn, and then flattened out late in a promising debut. Maidens from this stable generally race their way into top form.
BATTLE OF EVERMORE
Trainer: John Sadler
Last race: July 26, 6th
Finish: 3rd by 1
Beyer: 63
A 2-year-old special weight maiden, he entered this six-furlong race with a work tab that suggested he might need a prep race. He actually ran well, closing ground in a bunched field. This was a promising debut from a stable that is stocked with 2-year-old maidens.
BOOKWORM
Trainer: Bob Baffert
Last race: July 27, 1st
Finish: 3rd by 2 3/4
Beyer: 70
A 3-year-old first-timer, this Bertrando colt ran okay. Not quick, got caught in an uncomfortable spot on the backstretch, checked slightly, finished evenly inside, and galloped out in front of the field. Expect much improvement second time out.
