Freehold: Surreality leads all the way in NJSS Standardbred Development Fund Final
Surreality, who won a Geers division on the Grand Circuit earlier this year, was victorious in the $50,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Standardbred Development Fund Final for rookie pacing fillies on Saturday afternoon at Freehold Raceway.
Driven by George Brennan, Surreality made front from post two and led her five rivals through fractions of 28 2/5, 58 2/5, and 1:27 2/5. Hurrikane Lori Ann (Daniel Dube) popped out of the pocket to take a shot at the pace-setter off the final bend, but she couldn't make up any ground, as Surreality remained clear, winning by a length and three-quarters in 1:56 2/5. Surrealism (Jim Marshall III) was the third-place finisher.
A So Surreal filly, Surreality is trained by Mark Harder, who also co-owns her with partners Joseph Jannuzzelli and Dawn Colucci. This was Surreality's fifth win from ten starts, and she has now earned $64,625. She was the 1-9 favorite and paid $2.10 across the board.
In the day's opener, Foiled Again (Brennan) posted the 103rd win of his illustrious career. He pulled first-up nearing the half, took the lead off the last turn, and went on to win in 1:53 4/5 for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., and JJK Stables LLC.
