Freehold: No Drama Please prevails in NJSS Standardbred Development Fund final
1-5 favorite No Drama Please easily won Friday afternoon's $50,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Standardbred Development Fund final for rookie trotting colts and geldings at Freehold Raceway, completing the mile in 2:00 3/5 over a track rated good and a second off.
Driven by George Brennan and starting from post one, No Drama Please battled for the lead with Gerris Trix (Josert Fonseca) around the opening turn, but Gerris Trix relented and settled into the pocket before the 30 1/5 opening quarter. No Drama Please was then unchallenged in the second quarter, allowing Brennan to tap the brakes and to get to the half in just 1:01 1/5.
No Drama Please's stable-mate Bordogna (Steve Smith) pulled first-up from third passing the half, but he was unable to gain to the 1:29 3/5 three-quarters, then broke stride midway on the final turn. From that point to the wire, it was down to just No Drama Please and Gerris Trix, and the latter couldn't mount a bid, as No Drama Please went on to win by a length and three-quarters. Warrior One (Kyle Husted), who was pushed out three-wide on the far turn by the breaking Bordogna, was the third-place finisher.
Julie Miller trains No Drama Please, a colt from the first crop of Trixton, for owner Stroy Inc. This was No Drama Please's third career victory, and he has now earned $71,732. He returned $2.40 to win.
