Freehold: Mikala dominates in NJSS-SDF event
Mikala, a winner over Fire Start Hanover in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes action at Pocono on August 14, easily won Saturday afternoon's single $10,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund division for sophomore pacing fillies at Freehold Raceway.
Driven by George Brennan, Mikala went to the point from post four and led through fractions of 27 4/5, 57, and 1:25 2/5. She then sprinted home in 28 1/5 to defeat pocket-sitter Podium Girl (Dan Dube) by 3 1/4 lengths in a 1:53 3/5 mile. Always B Laughin (Tyler Miller) held third after a first-over journey.

Nik Drennan trains Mikala, a daughter of Always B Miki, for owners Joseph Davino, Brad Shackman, Anthony Perretti Farm LLC., and Drennan Stable LLC. Mikala, who was bred by White Birch Farm and is out of She's Some Treasure, a full sister to Captaintreacherous, has won five times from 12 starts, has pocketed $122,218, and paid $2.20 to win as the 1-9 favorite.
