Freehold: Gallie Getaway wires rivals in NJSS-SDF final
Gallie Getaway set up shop on the lead from the pole position and went on to a 1:56 4/5 victory in the $70,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund final for rookie colt and gelding pacers on Saturday afternoon at Freehold Raceway.
Driven by Jack Pelling, Gallie Getaway carved out panels of 28 2/5, 58 4/5, and 1:28, with Solar Event (Steve Smith) moving first-over out of third going to three-quarters. Solar Event got onto even terms with Gallie Getaway on the final bend, but Gallie Getaway responded to the challenge and put away Solar Event before they turned for home.
From there, Gallie Getaway also had to deal with a passing lane rush by pocket-sitter Kraken Seelster (Eric Abbatiello) in the stretch, and he was able to handle that bid as well, holding Kraken Seelster at bay by a neck. Taste Of Honey (Corey Callahan) rallied from fifth to third in the final quarter.
