Free: Two Santa Anita doubles for Saturday, Oct. 25
ARCADIA, Calif. – A small pick-six carryover ($34,949) is up for grabs Saturday at Santa Anita. Good luck with that.
Rather than swing for the fences, a suggested play is simple – a pair of daily doubles that key non-favorites. The sequences are races 5-6 and 8-9. While neither double would pay a ton ($30 range), neither requires a huge investment – $4 each.
Race 5
A good maiden race for 2-year-olds includes a pair of highly regarded first-time starters who have shown above-average ability in the morning.
Firing Line, the 5-2 favorite, is a speedster with a series of fast works. Candy Cowboy, 6-1 and likely to go lower, is a highly regarded colt who also has worked well. The others are of no consequence.
Race 6
Carlot Cowboy is classic Bill Spawr. The trainer has long had a knack for rejuvenating veteran claimers, and Carlot Cowboy is rejuvenated. He overcame a rocky trip last time to win a dirt route impressively. Spawr strikes while the iron is hot and wheels him back in a turf sprint as the 9-2 fifth choice. He is the non-favorite key.
The bet
Races 5-6, $2 daily double
Firing Line and Candy Cowboy (3 & 7) with Carlot Cowboy (3)
Race 8
Alexis Tangier is a good filly getting better and poised for a minor upset in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes. She is the 7-2 second choice in the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies. She is the non-favorite key.
Race 9
A maiden-$20K ends the card, and Takeit Tothe Limit, the 7-2 favorite, will lead as far as he can. If he falters as usual, then closer Tasha’s Courage, 6-1, can be along in time. He is the fifth choice in the program.
The bet
Races 8-9, $2 daily double
Alexis Tangier (7) with Takeit To the Limit and Tasha’s Courage (4 & 5).
