Free: Santa Anita pick three play for Sunday, Oct. 5
ARCADIA, Calif. – Two $100,000 turf stakes for 2-year-olds carry Breeders’ Cup ramifications Sunday at Santa Anita.
The one-mile Zuma Beach goes as race 6 and is a prep race for the BC Juvenile Turf. The Surfer Girl, race 8, is a prep race for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf.
However, the race between the Zuma Beach and Surfer Girl is the most important for betting purposes. That allowance sprint includes a 15-1 shot that will be singled in the pick three, between the stakes.
This $1 pick three will cover races 6-8.
Race 6
Dallas Skyline (#6) is favored based on two good turf routes at Del Mar. He won his debut despite racing wide throughout, followed by a better-than-looked fourth in a stakes.
Dallas Skyline had an alibi for losing the stakes as the favorite. First, there was a long delay at the gate. Second, his jockey made a premature move that took him from sixth to first on the backstretch. The move backfired. Dallas Skyline finished fourth.
Dallas Skyline continues to train well. With new jockey Mike Smith aboard, he will have every chance as the 5-2 favorite.
Luck of the Kitten ships in from Kentucky with an improving resume. He finished second in his debut, won a maiden race second out, and finished second in a $190,000 stakes in his third start. No knocks as the 3-1 second choice.
Rowdy Dylan underwent surgery to remove an undescended testicle that may have been bothering him when he finished second in a stakes three weeks ago. He was sired by Sky Mesa. No reason he won’t like turf.
Highway Boss probably is not good enough, but the gelding gradually is improving and an 8-1 looms an interesting knockout.
Dallas Skyline will be a key on two tickets; two other tickets will use all four contenders.

Race 7
The good news is Winning Vision offers value as a longshot “single.” The bad news is she is not likely to be anything close to her 15-1 morning line. Probably half that.
Winning Vision ran super in his comeback early last month at Los Alamitos. She pressed a blazing pace, made the lead nearing the eighth pole, and got worn down. She finished nearly five lengths clear of third. It was a terrific comeback.
Winning Vision faces a tougher field Sunday. That’s fine. At her program odds, with pace-speed credentials to win this N1X for fillies and mares, Winning Vision is a single.
Race 8
Her Emmynency, the runner-up in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, posted two outstanding turf works since shipping to Santa Anita. She looked better than the older filly Istanford in a Sept. 20 team work and came back a week later with another outstanding turf work.
Her Emmynency is the 5-2 favorite and the most probable winner on the card. If she misfires, the stakes winner She’s Complete or the European shipper Bobbi Grace have a look.
