Maiden 3-year-old slow to develop. Ran well in $50k maiden-claiming turf mile. Three wide near back, wide throughout, lugged in in stretch. Maiden win soon vs. similar.
REDLINE
Trainer: John Sadler
Last race: Sept. 30, race 8
Finish: 3rd by 5 1/2

Odds-on N1X sprinter stuck behind slow early pace, uncomfortable in traffic, steadied at half, no rally. Highly rated runner-up twice Del Mar summer. Can rebound Del Mar fall.

QUINTECENTS
Trainer: Michael McCarthy
Last race: Oct. 1, race 1
Finish: 5th by 1 1/4
Beyer: 81
Tough trip for 3-year-old in special-weight maiden turf mile. Third on rail, blocked five-sixteenths and again eighth pole. Unlucky. Six-start maiden no champ, but fits vs. similar.
GOLD PHOENIX
Trainer: Phil D’Amato
Last race: Oct. 1, race 3
Finish: 3rd by neck
Beyer: 97
Favored in 10-furlong turf G2. On rail next to last behind slow pace, angled out, smoked last quarter in 22.17. Up against it in Breeders’ Cup Turf, but this effort was terrific.
SUPER OCHO
Trainer: Amador Sanchez
Last race: Oct. 1, race 6
Finish: 3rd by 1
Beyer: 93
Longshot in G2 sprint ran better than one-two finishers. Shuffled back from between rivals early, re-rallied to press hot pace, made lead late, collared. Excellent performance.
RAGTIME ROSE
Trainer: Jeff Mullins
Last race: Oct, 1, race 10
Finish: 2nd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 60
Debut 2-year-old filly broke slowly in turf sprint, made up ground gradually, waited briefly on turn, wide into lane, finished willingly. May want longer.
DASH AWAY
Trainer: Peter Miller
Last race: Oct. 2, race 1
Finish: 2nd by 1/2
Beyer: 70
Debut 2-year-old filly racing mile on turf broke slowly, hit traffic in lane, appeared a bit uncertain in stretch, ran final quarter in 23.40 despite greenness in a solid effort.
EMERALD LAKE
Trainer: Peter Miller
Last race: Oct. 2, race 10
Finish: 10th by 6 1/2
Beyer: 68
Allowance turf filly 3-1 favorite off 8-1 program odds. Rank throughout, not comfortable, encountered traffic in lane, and was spent. Cantankerous filly might like sprinting on the hill. This was a toss.
