Brad Free|Oct 12, 2022

ISSA COURT

Trainer: Dan Blacker

Last race: Oct. 7, race 7

Finish: 4th by 5 1/4

Beyer: 68

Cal-bred allowance mare chased quick pace in downhill sprint, flattened out late in first race in nearly nine months. Useful prep for mare who wants two turns. Either surface is fine.

AMERICAREDWHITEBLU

Trainer: Mark Glatt

Last race: Oct. 7, race 9

Finish: 4th by 1/2

Beyer: 84

Dirt specialist on turf in non-winners-three starter allowance set pace to deep stretch, got swallowed. His front-running style is less effective on turf. He wants two turns on dirt.

APPREHEND

Trainer: Peter Miller

Last race: Oct. 8, race 2

Finish: 1st by 8 1/2

Beyer: 107

Three-year-old by Arrogate stretched out in second-level dirt allowance route, and ran like a stakes horse. Pressed pace, ran away, huge figure. Follow against tougher rivals.

CUBAN CRISIS

Trainer: Mark Glatt

Last race: Oct. 8, race 3

Finish: 3rd by 1

Beyer: 70

Maiden turf sprinter tucked two wide just off pace, split rivals at top of the lane, loomed threat, run over late while making her first start in nearly eight months. Solid comeback.

BLESSED TOUCH

Trainer: Tim Yakteen

Last race: Oct. 8, race 4

Finish: 1st by 8 3/4

Beyer: 90

Second-start maiden earned highest fig of season by 2-year-old filly in California. Set fast pace, ran away. Girvin filly early favorite $100k Desi Arnaz Stakes Nov. 19 at Del Mar.

SHOCKING GREY

Trainer: Jeff Mullins

Last race: Oct. 9, race 1

Finish: 2nd by 1 1/4

Beyer: 63

Debut filly trained as if she wanted two turns, ran likewise in turf sprint. Settled midpack, rallied wide, finished willingly. Gray daughter of Grazen can be followed stretching out.

TOUCH OF ZEN

Trainer: Phil D’Amato

Last race: Oct. 9, race 3

Finish: 3rd by 2 1/2

Beyer: 71

Cal-bred maiden endured another bad trip in turf route. Not quick, green early, steadied far turn, angled outside, ran fastest final quarter in race (23.35). Ready for maiden win.

NAVY MAN

Trainer: Michael McCarthy

Last race: Oct. 9, race 6

Finish: 3rd by 5 1/4

Beyer: 80

Juvenile firster ran well behind Bob Baffert-trained hotshots. Raced third on rail, went evenly late. McCarthy-trained maidens typically race into condition. This was a solid debut.
