Free: Santa Anita horses to watch for week of Feb. 13
SALSITA
Trainer: Jeff Mullins
Last race: Feb. 9, 5th
Finish: 1st by neck
Beyer: 85
This veteran turf mare unleashed a huge late kick (23-second final quarter on a “good” course). Claimed for $40,000 by Mullins from Richard Baltas, this eight-time winner can fire right back, up in class.
WILL TELL
Trainer: Vladimir Cerin
Last race: Feb. 9, 6th
Finish: 1st by 5 3/4
Beyer: 78
In his first race for Cerin and first since being gelded, this comebacking 3-year-old by Creative Cause dominated statebred maiden $50,000 claimers. He won with something left, and can go up the ladder.
DEL MAR ANN
Trainer: Richard Baltas
Last race: Feb. 10, 1st
Finish: 5th by 2 1/4
Beyer: 83
Well backed in this N2X turf sprint, this lightly raced 5-year-old mare was bogged down behind an apparently easy pace, steadied briefly on hill, and went evenly. She probably prefers two turns.
SHARP SAMURAI
Trainer: Mark Glatt
Last race: Feb. 10, 8th
Finish: 1st by 9 1/4
Beyer: 83
Gelded following a forgettable debut, this 3-year-old stretched to a mile and crushed a $75,000 maiden-claiming field. Clearly improved after being gelded and with the two turns, this intriguing prospect has room to improve.
TROUBLEWITHATEE
Trainer: Phil D’Amato
Last race: Feb. 11, 9th
Finish: 3rd by 1/2
Beyer: 74
Six-start maiden had another bad trip. Shuffled out of position on the backstretch, he lost ground into the lane, and finished well enough. Due for luck, he runs long on dirt or turf.
