DROP THE MIC

Trainer: Phil D’Amato

Last race: April 4, 8th

Finish: 4th by 3 1/4

Beyer: 67

Lightly raced filly ran well in Cal-bred allowance turf mile. Shuffled early, trailed, angled out, and put in big finish and big gallop-out in race won by pacesetter. Longshot look in similar turf route.

SURFACE

Trainer: Michael McCarthy

Last race: April 5, 5th

Finish:5th by 2 1/4

Beyer: 74

Promising debut in maiden turf mile by Quality Road filly, who was only prepping. Settled midpack, angled outside, and finished with run. Solid prep race; improvement likely.

ONE BAD BOY

Trainer: Richard Baltas

Last race: April 6, 7th

Finish: 1st by 4 1/4

Beyer: 85

Maiden set blazing pace (45.08 and 1:09.43) in turf mile, and kept running. Twirling Candy colt is a sibling to stakes filly Ms Bad Behavior. A promising turf colt for summer, this Ontario-bred could be a candidate for the Queen’s Plate.

PLAY MONEY

Trainer: David Hofmans

Last race: April 6, 7th

Finish: 10th by 19

Beyer: 45

Scratched early in the week from off-turf sprint, this Cal-bred maiden was forced to run long vs. open company. Chased a blazing pace and wilted. Unusual Heat colt is better than shown.

INSCOM

Trainer: Simon Callaghan

Last race: April 6, 11th

Finish: 7th by 6 3/4

Beyer: 78

First race since being gelded and first since last summer, this stakes-placed colt engaged in a pace battle, went fast, and tired in the final furlong. Good prep race. Threat in N1X if he rations his speed.

STARTING BLOC

Trainer: Alfredo Marquez

Last race: April 7, 7th

Finish: 5th by 2 3/4

Beyer: 86

Deep closer in a second-level turf allowance had no shot in mile and eighth race dominated by two front-runners. Flew home in 34 and change. He wants a mile and three-eighths.
