Free: Santa Anita horses to watch for week of April 23, 2018
YUVETSI
Trainer: John Sadler
Last race: April 20, 4th
Finish: 3rd by 6 3/4
Beyer: 81
Expected to contest the pace, this N2X sprint filly was not quick, steadied and shuffled back, and never able to establish position. This entire debacle was a toss. Follow in similar N2X.
SIR EDDIE
Trainer: Doug O’Neill
Last race: April 20, 5th
Finish: 2nd by 1/2
Beyer: 69
A second-start maiden, he stumbled and broke last in a turf sprint, then rallied to miss by only a half-length. He should be tough in upcoming Cal-bred MSW sprint, either surface.
KENJISSTORM
Trainer: Phil D’Amato
Last race: April 21, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 90
This veteran had a tough trip in a Grade 3 turf mile. Carried wide on the first turn, he continued to lose ground on the far turn, loomed, and lost his punch. He covered a lot of ground; probably was best.
AUNT LUBIE
Trainer: Richard Mandella
Last race: April 22, 3rd
Finish: 6th by 7 1/4
Beyer: 63
This well-bet Uncle Mo debut filly disappointed. Away slowly, she was outrun and finished evenly, but galloped out in front. She trained super going in and is worth following at a longer distance.
KONA DREAMS
Trainer: Bill Spawr
Last race: April 22, 4th
Finish: 4th by 2 1/4
Beyer: 76
Front-runner returns to HTW list after another big effort, setting a fast pace in a claiming turf mile. Battled on lead, and stuck in to deep stretch. The top three finishers rallied from the back.
