Free: How I'll play Del Mar for Sunday, Nov. 12

Brad Free|Nov 12, 2017

DEL MAR, Calif. – Three dependable horses on which to wager Sunday at Del Mar:

Race 2
Trainer Vladimir Cerin is on target for his best season in 10 years. Cerin runners have won 33 races and more than $1.5 million, a total likely to increase Sunday in race 2.

Cerin claimed FULL ACCESS for $25,000 last out, a non-winners-of-two in which he finished second. Cerin is 3 for 6 first start off the claim the past two months; his timing was perfect with Full Access. The gelding is vastly improved since switching to turf, he switches riders and is capable of handling this $40,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds.

Full Access is 3-1 second choice in the program, and worth a straight bet at that price.

Race 4
One benefit of producing personal speed figures is they sometimes differ from more widely circulated figures. That is good. While the public views one set of numbers, bettors employing personal figures can base decisions on a different set.

If one’s figures are accurate, they can provide an advantage. That might be the case in this maiden special-weight for 2-year-old fillies. The favorite might be a low-odds overlay.

SUMMER'S INDY earned a 72 Beyer finishing second last out. This handicapper gave her a significantly higher figure. If the higher figure is accurate, and if it is repeated, Summer’s Indy should easily handle her rivals Sunday. Perhaps her odds should be 7-5.

Summer’s Indy, however, is listed at 5-2. She is worth a straight bet at that price.

Race 7
ICY STREET had one troubled trip after another. He clipped heels three back, steadied in the stretch two back, and was compromised by the race shape last out. A maiden turf horse, Icy Street flew late last out (34.43 final three-eighths). He finished fourth.

Icy Street is due. He shortens to one mile, returns to the course on which he earned a career-best Beyer two starts back, and should handle these maidens.

Icy Street, 7-2 in the program, is worth a straight bet at 3-1 or higher.

Full Access in race 2, Summer’s Indy in race 4, and Icy Street in race 7 are three reliable horses on which to wager Sunday at Del Mar.
