Free: How I'd play Del Mar for Monday, Sept. 4, 2017

Brad Free|Sep 03, 2017

DEL MAR, Calif. – A pick four on the final four races of the Del Mar summer season is the main play on closing day. The sequence includes an intriguing Florida shipper with an upset chance (win bet, exacta key) in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf.

The pick four covers races 7-10.

Race 7
JEREMY'S LEGACY (5) crushed first-level allowance foes one month ago. A repeat of that performance would make her tough to beat in this second-level turf allowance. Both wins by Jeremy’s Legacy were on the Del Mar turf.

KATHY'S SONG (3) ran into a roadblock and steadied sharply in the stretch of the Del Mar Oaks two weeks ago. She missed by only slightly more than five lengths, would have finished a lot closer, and merits an upset chance wheeling back in this N2X vs. older.

Include: Kathy’s Song (3), Jeremy’s Legacy (5)

Race 8
A good group of 2-year-olds race seven furlongs in the Del Mar Futurity. The seasoned front-runner RUN AWAY (3) is favored, but three others trained well since highly rated maiden wins. They are TATTERS TO RICHES (4), BOLT d'ORO (6) and ZATTER (9).

Include: Run Away (3), Tatters to Riches (4), Bolt d’Oro (6), Zatter (9).

Race 9
MEDAGLIA GOLD
(2) slowed down early and kicked strongly late to win a maiden turf race in July. She is the one to beat in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf. MULTIPLAYER (6) rallied from behind to win her debut like a filly that will only improve.

But a longshot that overcame trouble to win her only start looms the upset candidate. She is UNSTABLENTHEMORNIN (4). Her debut is worth watching (GP, July 9, race 7).

Unstablenthemornin was carried seven-wide on the first turn when caught outside a rival that blew the turn. Unstablenthemornin remained wide on the backstretch and through the far turn, rolled to the lead and crushed by three lengths. Kind of amazing debut, actually.

Unstablenthemornin is listed at 12-1, and worth a straight bet.

Include: Medaglia Gold (2), Unstablenthemornin (4), Multiplayer (6)

Race 10
TOUCHING RAINBOWS (4) and PRIME ISSUE (6) are the best speed. Stretch-runner MIDNIGHT PLEASURE (5) will fly late. Using all three.

Include: Touching Rainbows (4), Midnight Pleasure (5), Prime Issue (6)

Race 7-10 pick four (50-cent wager, $36 total)
Race 7:
Kathy’s Song, Jeremy’s Legacy (3, 5)
Race 8: Run Away, Tatters to Riches, Bolt d’Oro, Zatter (3, 4, 6, 9)
Race 9: Medaglia Gold, Unstablenthemornin, Multiplayer (2, 4, 6)
Race 10: Touching Rainbows, Midnight Pleasure, Prime Issue (4, 5, 6)

Race 9 win, exacta ($14 total)
$10 win, Unstablenthemornin (4)
$2 exactas Medaglia Gold and Multiplayer with Unstablenthemornin (2, 6 with 4)

Total outlay = $50
