Free: Del Mar pick three play for Sunday, Aug. 10
DEL MAR, Calif. – After hopefully winning the first daily double Sunday at Del Mar using race-1 “likely winner” Tatum’s Gold to race 2 “upset candidate” I’vegotafeeling, a portion of the profits can be used to wager a $1 pick three on races 5-7. The cost is $54.
Three tickets will be played, with a chance to win all three. As outlined in the strategy below, the “key” horse is race 7 contender Maybellene. The ticket needs Maybellene to win if an unpredictable bomber wins an earlier race.
PICK THREE (races 5-7)
Race 5
A sprint for older California-bred maidens boils down to two main contenders. CRIMINAL ELEMENT (No. 6) had trouble first out and can improve. He is 8-1. HE’S ON HIS TOES (No. 10) has worked fast for his comeback. He is 5-2.
Race 6
Two good horses from top stables return with the same angle in their favor. MOTOWN MEN (No. 3) returns in a claiming race with the no-claim designation. He is 3-1. EZIO (No. 4) returns in a claiming race with the no-claim designation. He is 6-1.
Race 7
An interesting sprint for 2-year-old maiden fillies ends the sequence. Fast-working first-timer MANAHATTA (No. 1) is the “hype” horse. She can win if she breaks running from the rail. She is 5-2. MAYBELLENE (No. 5) ran better than the line appears in her third-place debut. She is 7-2. MUCHO BLESSINGS (No. 9) is a second-timer who will be finishing in a race with plenty of speed.
The strategy:
($1 pick 3; races 5-7)
Race 5, Nos. 6, 10
Race 6, Nos. 3, 4
Race 7, Nos. 1, 5, 9
First ticket cost = $12
($1 pick 3; races 5-7)
Race 5, “All 11”
Race 6, Nos. 3, 4
Race 7, No. 5
Second ticket cost = $22
($1 pick 3; races 5-7)
Race 5, Nos. 6, 10
Race 6, “All 10”
Race 7, No. 5
Third ticket cost = $20
Total cost = $54
