Fred Aime, who booked mounts for Pat Day at the height of the Hall of Fame jockey’s career, died in hospice Wednesday in Jefferson Parish, La., following a lengthy bout with cancer. He was 70. Day said Aime worked for him for about 10 years, from 1986-96, and that they enjoyed an ideal working relationship throughout their time together. “He was a great agent, a great guy,” said Day. “I got to speak to him not too long before he passed. He did a very commendable job for me and we set records together. He was a real pleasure.” Aime, born and raised in Louisiana, worked for decades as an agent, although in his later years he mainly stayed home in New Orleans, working only the Fair Grounds winter meet. Aime is survived by his wife, Laura. A memorial service was being planned, perhaps to be held this coming weekend. Day, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991, retired in 2005. His only Kentucky Derby victory, aboard Lil E. Tee in 1992, came with Aime as his agent. Day also employed Jim “Coach” Read and Doc Danner as his agents during a 32-year career.
