Frankel continues to build an impressive legacy as he has moved on from a stellar racing career to a stellar sire career. Meanwhile, his own late sire, Galileo, continues to extend his influence. These two stellar sires each were represented by three winners at last week’s Royal Ascot meeting in England to finish among the leading sires of the event. Siyouni, who stands at Haras de Bonneval in France, also sired three winners. Unbeaten two-time European Horse of the Year Frankel retired to owner-breeder Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket to great fanfare in 2013 and has proven a smashing success. With his progeny on the track for less than a decade, he is the sire of 128 stakes winners to date and is approaching the $100 million marker in career progeny earnings, with the figure standing at $95,909,067 on Monday. Frankel’s wins at Royal Ascot last week all came in Group 1 company, with Triple Time winning the Queen Anne Stakes, Mostahdaf taking the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, and Courage Mon Ami winning the Ascot Gold Cup. Galileo, who died in 2021 at Coolmore in Ireland, added three more Royal Ascot wins to his credit, with Group 2 Ribblesdale winner Warm Heart, Duke of Edinburgh winner Okita Soushi, and Queen Alexandra winner Dawn Rising. Galileo, who will have one more crop of juveniles to the track next year, is the sire of 397 career stakes winners, with the milestone of 400 well within reach. Galileo was represented by two other sons who sired winners at Royal Ascot last week, in Australia and Galiway. U.S. influence at Royal Ascot Young classic winner Nyquist and the late classic sire Malibu Moon were represented as stallions who stand or most recently stood in Kentucky to win races at Royal Ascot last week, both with Kentucky-bred juveniles. Eclipse Award champion 2-year-old and Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist, standing for Darley, emerged as leading freshman sire in 2020 thanks to champion filly Vequist. He added another outstanding filly to his credit as Crimson Advocate won the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. Crimson Advocate, based in the United States with George Weaver for a partnership, is out of the Proud Citizen mare Citizen Advocate and was bred in Kentucky by Whitehall Lane Farm. The filly was a $100,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. fall yearling purchase and has now won twice from three outings. :: Get ready for summer racing with a DRF Formulator Quarterly PP plan Valiant Force, winner of the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes, is from the penultimate crop by Malibu Moon, whose Grade 1 winners include Kentucky Derby winner Orb. The stallion died in 2021 at Spendthrift Farm. Valiant Force, out of the Quality Road mare Vigui’s Heart, was bred by Spendthrift assistant yearling manager Ramon Rangel, in partnership with the farm. After selling for $75,000 as a Keeneland November weanling and then $100,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, he now races overseas for a partnership and upset the Norfolk to win his maiden. Good Magic kin set for bow A full sister to champion and classic sire Good Magic has recently been named Penny Royal and is preparing for a possible summer debut for Stonestreet Farm. The 2-year-old Penny Royal, who will race as a homebred for Stonestreet, has posted five breezes at Keeneland since May. Most recently, she went a half-mile from the starting gate on Saturday morning. “She is progressing well in her training and will look gorgeous in gold,” Stonestreet reported on its social media channels. Penny Royal is by classic sire Curlin and out of Grade 2-placed stakes winner Glinda the Good, by Hard Spun. That mare, also a Stonestreet homebred, has produced four winners from five starters, most notably Good Magic, the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and Eclipse Award champion who went on to be a Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up as a 3-year-old. Good Magic is the sire of this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Mage, from his first crop. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
