Frank Gabriel dies at 81
Frank G. Gabriel Sr., a longtime racing official and father of Arlington Park's executive vice president of racing, Frank G. Gabriel Jr., died early Tuesday in Florida after a long illness. He was 81.
Gabriel began his career as an owner-trainer on the East Coast and later was a jockey agent. He served as racing secretary at Laurel, Garden State, Atlantic City, and Keystone (now Philadelphia Park). He was also a racing official in Louisiana.
In addition to Frank Jr., Gabriel is survived by sons John and Patrick, daughters Donna Carroll and Mary Keaser, and 10 grandchildren.
