France: Pair of handicaps headline Monday's Lyon-Parilly card

A pair of handicaps, one for 4-year-olds over 1 1/2 miles, the other for 3-year-olds at one mile, headline the action at Lyon-Parilly on Monday.

Lyon-Parilly along with Chateaubriant both have Monday cards scheduled, with no racing in Germany again until May 29. All the French and German action is available for live video and wagering at DRFBets.com.

The 10-race Chateaubriant card starts at 4:45 a.m. Eastern, while the higher-level racing at Lyon-Parilly begins at 5:40 a.m. Eastern on Monday morning.

The 1 1/2-mile handicap, carded as the fifth race, has 13 expected runners, with Souveraine the Sunday antepost favorite at a general 7-2 with English bookmakers. Weights for this race range from 134-assigned topweight Royalist down to 115.

Souveraine, weighted at 123, ended his 2019 campaign with a second and two wins in handicap races between 1 3/16 and 1 1/2 miles, and in his lone start this year was an easy 1 1/2-mile handicap winner racing over heavy going March 15 at Saint-Cloud. The Lyon-Parilly course as of Sunday was called good to soft.
