Frac Daddy invades for San Diego

DE MAR, Calif. - Frac Daddy, sent to Del Mar because of his aptitude on synthetic surfaces, worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds on Monday morning for trainer Kenny McPeek in his final drill for the Grade 2, $200,000 San Diego Handicap for 3-year-olds and up on Saturday.
Frac Daddy comes off a second-place finish in the Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine on July 1. Earlier this year, he won the Eclipse at Woodbine, and the Ben Ali at Keeneland. Both those races were run on Polytrack, the same surface as at Del Mar.
The San Diego, at 1 1/16 miles, is the local prep for the biggest race of the meet, the Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 24.
Others slated for the San Diego include Dance With Fate, Fed Biz, Footbridge, Fury Kapcori, Handsome Mike, Imperative, and Soi Phet.
Soi Phet is entered in the Grade 3, $100,000 Cougar II on Friday going 1 1/2 miles, but trainer Leonard Powell said he likely would bypass the Cougar II for the San Diego.
