Foxysox victorious in Bayakoa

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The experiment of trying the turf stakes winner Foxysox on the main track in Sunday's $150,000 was not only a success, but may lead to a change in her 2007 campaign.

After the race, trainer Carla Gaines said Foxysox would be pointed to the three-race La Canada Series for 4-year-old fillies of 2007 during the upcoming Santa Anita winter-spring meeting.

Foxysox certainly took to Hollywood Park's synthetic surface in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Handicap.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Foxysox ($13.60) rallied from last in a field of 11 to win the Bayakoa by a neck over 39-1 Round Heels. Foxysox ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:41.84. She overcame a squeeze at the start and rallied five wide on the turn to reach the front in the final strides.

"Out of the gate, I thought she lost all chance," Gaines said.

Foxysox was helped by Bella Banissa, who set a torrid pace of 22.27 and 44.60 seconds, leading by as many as 10 lengths. Foxysox was 12th with 3 1-2 furlongs remaining but fourth in midstretch.

Foxysox races for Warren Williamson. A winner of three turf stakes earlier this year, Foxysox has won 5 of 14 starts and $448,254.

Round Heels, the longest shot in the field, finished 1 1-4 lengths in front of Dona Amelia. Neuilly and River Savage were scratched early Sunday.
