Foxy Junior adds another stakes victory in Thirty Eight Go Go

Jim McCue Foxy Junior scored an easy victory for her third straight stakes win in Saturday's Thirty Eight Go Go at Laurel.

Foxy Junior won her third consecutive stakes race Saturday, when she overtook pacesetter Malibu Beauty for a 2 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go at Laurel Park. It was another three lengths back in third to Kissedbyanangel.

The Thirty Eight Go Go, for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles, was one of three stakes on Laurel’s card.

Foxy Junior ($5.20) stalked the pace as Malibu Beauty was clear through fractions of 23.74 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.51 for the half-mile, and 1:12.04 for six furlongs. Foxy Junior advanced on the final turn, overtook the leader, and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:44.18.

Jomar Torres was aboard for trainer Bernard Houghton.

Foxy Junior is a daughter of Cuba who races for her breeder, Dianne Stern. She had won the Plum Pretty at Parx Racing and the Maryland Million Distaff at Laurel ahead of the Thirty Eight Go Go.

Smart Halo

Caprice won the third stakes race of her young career in the $100,000 Smarty Halo, when she was up for a half-length victory over Great Andrei. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Beyond Belief.

The Smart Halo was a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies.

Caprice ($5.20) settled off the pace set by Daze, who put up fractions of 22.63 for the opening quarter and 45.99 for the half-mile. Caprice advanced and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:11.58.

Jaime Rodriguez was aboard for Runnymoore Racing and trainer Cathal Lynch. Caprice is a daughter of Golden Lad.

James F. Lewis III

Sacred Thunder was a one-length winner over Re Markably in the $100,000 James F. Lewis III, a six-furlong race for 2-year-olds. It was another four lengths back in third to Saxton.

Sacred Thunder ($10.60) sat off the pace set by Do It for Michael, who led through fractions of 23.22 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.09 for the half-mile. Sacred Thunder moved to the front in the stretch and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:10.45.

Jevian Toledo was aboard for trainer Gary Capuano. Sacred Thunder is a son of Holy Boss who races for John Hazard.
