Fox Rules turns the tables in Genesee Valley Breeders' Stakes
Fox Rules finished 14 lengths behind Awesome Vision the first time they met last season and was beaten 15 lengths in the rematch five months later. But back at Finger Lakes, where Fox Rules runs best, both the margin and the outcome were far different.
Sent to the front by jockey Pedro Rodriguez, the 5-year-old Fox Rules held off even-money favorite Awesome Vision by a nose to win Friday’s $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Stakes for New York-breds.
In completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.42, Fox Rules ($6.90) improved his record at Finger Lakes to 6 for 7. His lone defeat came when he was second as the even-money favorite in last year’s Genesee Valley.
Overall, it was the ninth win in 25 starts for Fox Rules, a son of Roman Ruler trained by Anthony Ferraro for Langpap Stables.
Awesome Vision, a five-time winner in 2013, was a clear second. Talk Therapy, last year’s Genesee Valley winner, was third at 6-1.
