Fourth time may be the charm for Katchy Name

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Kevin Attard sends out Katchy Name and Tachyon Speed in Thursday’s second race at Woodbine that kicks off the pick five. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for maiden 2-year-old fillies combines Ontario-sired runners with $40,000 claimers and is the priciest event on the eight-race card.
In her Aug. 28 debut, Katchy Name earned black type when third behind Anam Cara and Souper Sinclair in the $201,600 Muskoka Stakes for graduates of Canadian yearling sales. She went on to finish a chalky third against Ontario-sired and $40,000 maidens, and was favored again most recently when second at that same level in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint taken off the turf.
Kazushi Kimura will ride Katchy Name again for owner Derek Chin, who bred the daughter of popular Ontario sire Silent Name and modest producer Super Story.
Tachyon Speed was a distant third in the promising Ticker Tape Home’s authoritative maiden victory in her seven-furlong opener on the main turf Oct. 8. When adding Lasix on Nov. 10 in a six-furlong maiden special on the Tapeta, she closed four wide from midpack for second as the favorite.
Crumlin Beast, Be Like Leigh, and Liplock, a trio of droppers from maiden special weight company, are all contenders in the 12-horse field.

Crumlin Beast’s best of three races was a fourth-place finish behind the good Witch Hazel in her Sept. 11 debut. She raced at least four wide throughout over an inside-favoring track most recently before ending up eighth, five lengths behind victorious Speed Trap.
Be Like Leigh finished ninth behind the promising Speed Trap and Crumlin Beast after a wide trip against the bias Nov. 12. Her trainer, Mark Casse, has a 13 percent strike rate with maiden 2-year-old second-time starters adding blinkers at Woodbine over the past five years, with a return on investment of 93 cents.
Liplock got away slowly while herded out before racing wide on a track that had a golden rail when ninth in her Nov. 5 opener. Trainer Marty Drexler has had three runner-up finishes from six maiden 2-year-old second-timers during the last five years.
Zoning Order is debuting with a run-on pedigree. Her sire, Shaman Ghost, who won the Queen’s Plate and Grade 1 Woodward, has gotten 2 percent 2-year-old first-out winners. Trainer Darwin Banach has scored with two debut winners at the meet. Both went on to win stakes – Bushido and Hal.
Sensational Sarah and Holiday With Amy are both candidates for the bottom of vertical wagers.
The versatile Sensational Sarah is turning back off a front-running fourth going a mile and 70 yards. She was previously second in back-to-back races at this level on different surfaces.
Holiday With Amy broke slowly after acting up in the gate and eventually wound up fifth for the third time in as many starts on Nov. 10. Blinkers are being added by trainer Patrick Dixon.
