Freaky emphasized his status as the nation's leading older Quarter Horse with an easy win in Saturday's $150,000 Los Alamitos Championship, his fourth consecutive victory. A 4-year-old gelding, Freaky won the 440-yard Grade 1 race by 1 1/4 lengths over A Mere Splash. Ridden by Francisco Rubio, Freaky ($3.60) led from the start and was three-quarters of a length in front after 100 yards. The winning time of 20.96 seconds was the second sub-21-second 440-yard time in track history, and narrowly missed Jess You and I's 2008 track record of 20.944 seconds set in the Champion of Champions. Jess You and I finished seventh in Saturday's Los Alamitos Championship, never threatening Freaky. Owned by Armando Aguirre and trained by Adan Farias, Freaky has won 8 of 22 starts and $271,300. He will make his next start in the $750,000 Champion of Champions on Dec. 12, where he will be a strong favorite to win a 440-yard race that plays a major role in World Champion voting.
