Linda’s Gift, a four-time stakes winner on turf at Del Mar and Santa Anita in the last year, has been retired after an injury diagnosis, trainer Richard Mandella said on Friday.

The retirement was first reported by Thoroughbred Daily News.

Linda’s Gift, a 5-year-old daughter of Arrogate, is scheduled to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November sale in Kentucky on Nov. 4.

Linda’s Gift was second by a half-length as the 7-10 favorite in the CTT-TOC Handicap at 1 3/8 miles on turf for fillies and mares at Del Mar on Aug. 16 in her final start. Linda’s Gift had two workouts at Santa Anita earlier this month before her retirement was finalized.

“She started to tear a little bit of a suspensory,” Mandella said.

Linda’s Gift won 6 of 16 starts and earned $400,936. This year, Linda’s Gift raced for the partnership of John Cronin, Anthony DiMarco, Michael Mandara, Fred Nicotra, and Vincent Varvaro.

Last November, Linda’s Gift won the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes at Del Mar. Last winter at Santa Anita, Linda’s Gift won consecutive starts in the Astra Stakes at 1 1/2 miles and the Grade 3 Santa Ana Stakes at 1 1/4 miles. Linda’s Gift’s final win came in the Possibly Perfect Stakes at 1 1/2 miles at Santa Anita in June.

The Mandella-trained Tamara is working toward a comeback. On Friday at Santa Anita, Tamara worked three furlongs in the fog, but did not receive an official time, Mandella said.

The winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in September 2023, Tamara has not raced since she finished seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita last November.

Tamara emerged from the race with a splint bone injury that led to a layoff. Tamara has encountered additional setbacks in the last several months, including a recent bout with an elevated temperature, Mandella said.

“About 10 days she had a little temperature, but it didn’t amount to much,” he said.

Tamara is by Bolt d’Oro and is out of the Hall of Fame mare Beholder, a four-time champion.
