As the Ashes series gets underway, it’s not just Ben Stokes who will be playing a few sporting shots. Royal Ascot gives punters the chance to follow really good horses, often at very decent prices, and I like to try and spank one into the stands on occasions myself. This list, the main four horses of note for me this week, are a mixture of conventional and more 'out there' suggestions, but I'm hoping to get a great run out of each of them. The first bigger-priced runner for me is CHINDIT in the opening Queen Anne Stakes, as I really feel this could be his moment. Whilst he is by no means certain to reverse Lockinge Stakes form with Modern Games, I think he has a real chance, especially given how trainer Richard Hannon has explained at length this spring how his five-year-old has changed physically for the better this season. Maybe that physical development was the reason for the bite he took out of William Buick's hand at Newbury last month, but if he puts it all in, a mild upset is distinctly possible. On Wednesday, PROSPEROUS VOYAGE makes a quick reappearance in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, having returned to winning ways with a narrow but decisive win at Epsom. Frankie Dettori rode her on that occasion but looks committed to partnering Laurel here for John and Thady Gosden, but that’s all to William Buick's advantage. Buick is certainly worth an interest in the top jockey market, and a win here would be very welcome. Prosperous Voyage is essentially a Group 1 filly (second in last year’s Guineas) and lowered the colours of Inspiral at Newmarket last season. She looks rock solid and is one of my main bets for the week as a result. On to Thursday, and with the Gold Cup up for grabs this year, I have maximum faith that ELDAR ELDAROV , last year’s St Leger winner, will be well up to the task. The question of 'will he stay?' applies to nearly all of the field, so I'm not going to be put off by the doubters. When he won the Leger he was very strong at the finish, and similarly on his comeback run at York he finished best of all behind Giavellotto. This looks a great opportunity for him to show his class. Finally, a more speculative one for Thursday afternoon, WONDER LEGEND is an exciting runner in the King George V Stakes over a mile and a half. Lightly raced, this son of Sea The Stars took a big step forward when winning at Doncaster last time out off a mark off 81, absolutely skating in and looking more impressive with every stride taken. That win came with cut in the ground, but he should be fine on a watered surface, especially if the showers materialize earlier in the week. He has been raised a stone in the weights for that effort, but that can be offset to a large degree by the further step up in distance to a mile and a half. He's very exciting heading into next week. CHINDIT (Queen Anne Stakes, 2.30 Tuesday) PROSPEROUS VOYAGE (Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, 3.40 Wednesday) WONDER LEGEND (King George V Stakes, 3.05 Thursday) ELDAR ELDAROV (Gold Cup, 4.20 Thursday)
