Four qualifying chances on DRFT

Peter Thomas Fornatale|Feb 23, 2017

It’s another busy weekend of activity on DRF Tournaments, tournaments.drf.com. In addition to credit builders, match-up contests, and feeders, there are four qualifiers to major tournaments, starting on Saturday.

First up is a qualifier to Keeneland’s Grade One Gamble, one of the cornerstone contest events of the spring. It’s a handicapping tournament that lives up to its name, with first-class accommodations and top-notch racing. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, April 23. Keeneland will also be hosting a separate contest on Saturday with a $400 buy-in so players will have a chance to compete in both if they make the trip. Buy-in for the main contest is $3,000 but you can win in on Saturday for just $162. One in 25 entries will receive a winning package, which includes a seat and $500 in travel money.

Also on Saturday you can win in to the upcoming $1 million Horse Player World Series, which takes place on March 30-April 1 at the Orleans in Las Vegas. Buy-in for the qualifier is $108, and one in 27 entries will receive $2,500 winning packages, which include a HPWS seat and $500 in travel. The HPWS is a great contest for longshot players: three days, no cut lines, and a limited odds cap.

The next big contest taking place is the Ultimate Betting Challenge on March 11 and it takes center stage on Sunday. Players put up $279 for a pretty nice ratio of prizes to entries – one in 21. Winning packages include a $4,500 UBC entry along with $500 in travel money. The UBC is a live-bankroll contest that takes place at both Gulfstream and Santa Anita, the two centerpiece tracks for winter racing in the United States.

The final big event of the weekend has the biggest purse of all: a $7,000 entry (plus $500 in travel) to the Del Mar Betting Handicapping Challenge, which takes place at the famed seaside oval this summer. Buy-in for the Del Mar qualifier is $400 and one in 22 entries will advance.
