Four more juveniles tie for fastest furlong ahead of Maryland sale

Joe Nevills|May 18, 2017

A quartet of juveniles tied for fastest time for an eighth of a mile during the third and final session of the breeze show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training Thursday, stopping the clock in 10 seconds.

At the end of the three-day breeze show, 13 horses were tied for the fastest time at one furlong. The juveniles breezed on the five-eighths dirt track at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

Following are the four horses who tied for the fastest furlong on Thursday.

• Hip 79, Smart Response, a Smart Strike filly out of the stakes-winning Cozzene mare Salty Response, whose two foals to race are both winners. Salty Response is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Salty Strike, by Smart Strike, and the extended family includes Japanese Group 3 winner Eishin Lombard. Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds consigns Smart Response as agent.

• Hip 388, a Curlin colt out of the winning Stormin Fever mare Franscat, whose seven foals to race are all winners, including stakes winners Swinger's Party and Hubba Shake, and Grade 3 winner Powhatan County. Farther down the Florida-bred's page are Grade 1 winners Ogygian and Honour and Glory as well as Grade 3 winners Limestone and Rogue Romance. He is consigned by Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds as agent.

• Hip 390, a first-crop Jimmy Creed filly who is the first foal out of the unraced Harlan's Holiday mare Freedom Fire. Champion sprinter Eillo is in the extended family, as are Grade 1 winners Flat Fleet Feet and Gygistar. She is consigned by Endswell as agent.

• Hip 487, a Shackleford filly who is the first foal out of the winning Latent Heat mare Latent Charm. Stakes winners on the page include Simmstown, Toccet's Charm, The Ruler's Sister, and Wallop. Wavertree Stables consigns her as agent.

One horse led the way on Thursday among those breezing two furlongs, crossing the line in 21 2/5 seconds. In total, seven horses tied for the fastest time at the distance.

• Hip 481, a Tiz Wonderful filly out of the placed Officer mare Lady Leftennant, who is the dam of three winners from four foals to race. The Oklahoma-bred is from the family of Grade 1-placed stakes winner Jetin Excess, Grade 2-placed stakes winner Jet West, and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Jetinto Houston. SBM Training and Sales consigns the filly as agent.

The sale takes place Monday and Tuesday, beginning each day at 11 a.m. Eastern. To view the full results from the under-tack show, click here.
