Four locals possible for Pegasus World Cup Turf

ARCADIA, Calif. – Four horses based in Southern California are candidates for the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational on Jan. 23 at Gulfstream Park – Anothertwistafate, Next Shares, Say the Word, and Storm the Court.
Storm the Court, the champion 2-year-old male of 2019, was second in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile for 3-year-olds on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita in his most recent start. On Saturday, Storm the Court worked a half-mile on the main track in 48.40 seconds, his first workout since the Mathis Brothers Mile.
“He had a lot of good energy,” trainer Peter Eurton said.
Storm the Court is winless in eight starts since winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita in November 2019.
Anothertwistafate and Next Shares were first and third in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Jan. 2 at Santa Anita. Say the Word, third in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup on Nov. 27 at Del Mar, worked five furlongs on turf in 1:03.20 on Sunday at Santa Anita.
The track allowed a rare session of turf workouts for Say the Word and Next Shares in advance of the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf, which is run at 1 3/16 miles. Next Shares worked a half-mile in 51.40.
