Four horses tie for fastest one-furlong time at Ocala Breeders’ March sale

Joe Nevills|Mar 09, 2017

A quartet of horses tied for the fastest time over an eighth of a mile Thursday during the first Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March sale of 2-year-olds in training under-tack show, while a Super Saver colt stood alone at a quarter-mile.

The horses breezed over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface.

Here are the four horses to tie for the fastest time over one furlong, stopping the clock in 9 4/5 seconds:

- Hip 58, an Into Mischief colt out of the stakes-placed Speightstown mare Nefertiti, who is the dam of one winner from two runners. His second dam is multiple Grade 3 winner Clearly a Queen, and his page also features Grade 3 winner Savedbythelight. Bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm, the colt was a $200,000 purchase out of last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale, and Crupi's New Castle Farm consigns the colt, as agent.

- Hip 76, a first-crop Violence filly out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Passion Du Coeur, whose three foals to race are all winners. Consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, agent, the filly is from the family of Grade 2 winners Mrs McDougal and Warbling. She was a $30,000 purchase at last year’s OBS August yearling sale.

- Hip 79, a Speightstown colt out of the unraced Seeking the Gold mare Pay Lady. He is a full brother to Grade 1 winner Lighthouse Bay, and is consigned as agent by Top Line Sales. The colt was secured for $300,000 by Zayat Stables at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

- Hip 81, a Flatter filly out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Sky Classic mare Penny Marie, whose five winners from seven runners include Grade 2-placed Centrique and stakes-placed Bern Legacy. Farther down the page is 1975 Kentucky Oaks winner Sun and Snow and Grade 1 winner Honey Ryder. The filly was bred in Virginia by Lazy Lane Farm and is consigned by de Meric Sales, agent.

The fastest quarter-mile breeze of the day came from Hip 153, a Super Saver colt who stopped the clock in a blazing :20 1/5 seconds.
The bay colt is out of the stakes-placed More Than Ready mare Sandi's Ready, who is the dam of one winner from two runners. The extended page includes stakes winner Out Of My Way and Grade 3-placed Domonation.

De Meric Sales consigns the colt, as agent. He was a $30,000 purchase out of last year’s Keeneland September sale.

The Super Saver colt’s effort was the fastest quarter-mile breeze at an OBS juvenile under-tack show since the 2014 June 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age sale, when a Scat Daddy colt achieved the same time. The colt, later named Amoral, was purchased by Stonestreet Stables for $270,000 and has never finished worse than second in five starts in New York.

The OBS March breeze show continues through Saturday, beginning each day at 8 a.m. Eastern. The auction will take place March 14-15, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
